Homework is very helpful to students, but too much homework can cause major problems. Many students complain about having too much homework and adults argue that they're "just too lazy." Too much homework could be the cause of stressful, overweight, and discontent students.
Having school five days a week for seven hours is stressful enough, and an added four or five hours of homework every night does not lessen that stress level. High school students have much to worry about: preparing for college, getting and keeping a job, and keeping their grades up. With all of this, students barely have enough time to enjoy their life. A student gets up in the morning and goes straight to school until about 3 or 4 o'clock. After school, most either go to work or go to practice for an activity they do. By the time they get home, it's either time for them to have dinner and for some, it's time for them to go to bed to get the 8-10 hours of sleep that is suggested. After dinner, students begin gathering the homework they have to have done for the next day. This leaves no time for spending time with family or for any other enjoyable activities.
There are many excuses for the large number of obese children today, but one reason may be not enough free time. My parents talk about how when they were in grade school, they would stay outside playing until it was time for dinner and after dinner they would go back outside until it was time for bed. If students had less homework, they would have more time in the afternoons to go outside and play or exercise. Many students may also not be able to join an athletic team because of the amount of extra work they have after school and on weekends. If teachers would limit the amount of homework given to 1 or 2 hours tops a night, students may be less likely to become very unhealthy and more likely to be healthy and do their homework.
Homework is time consuming and may keep students from doing some activities, but the main problem is students become unhappy when they think about the amount of homework they are assigned every night. If all students had to do was go to school and learn for the 7 or 8 hours they're there, and went home to have free time or only a few hours of homework to do a night, they would be a lot more satisfied. Also, I think if students had less homework a night, they would be more likely to actually finish it and get it right because they wouldn't be dreading all the hours they still had to go.
Teachers assigning too much homework for schools may be the cause of stressed, overweight, and unhappy students. If teachers would cut down the hours of homework or amount of homework they assigned each night, students would benefit the way they should from homework.

Duel
Our class just started watching the movie Duel directed by Steven Speilburg. The movie looks like it was made a few years ago. There are no voices, just the radio playing and the sound of cars driving. The man who is the main character right now is a middle aged man with glasses and brown hair. He resembles the man in the movie The Lovely Bones who kidnaps Susie Salmon. The man drives a red car and and seems frustrated with the very dirty 18 wheeler in front of him, so he passes him. While the man in the red car is getting gas, the 18 wheeler also pulls off into the same gas station. He has just called his wife at the gas station to check on her because they had a fight the night before. Their fight was over his friend trying to rape his wife. The man has just left the gas station and as soon as he's back on the road, the 18 wheeler is following him again. David is the man in the red car's name. The 18 wheeler passes David and drives very slow in front of him, everytime David tries to pass him, the 18 wheeler swirves into the other lane, too. David has just gotten back in front of the 18 wheeler and the 18 wheeler is out of site, then starts speeding up right behind him.
The man just got cut off by the 18 wheeler, and ran into the fence. David is complaining and seems to have whiplash. He goes to the cafe across the street to wash his face off and try to get calmed down. He tells himself everything is OK and the 18 wheeler is gone, but when he goes back into the man part of the cafe, he sees the truck parked outside with no one in it. Now, he's trying to figure out which man in the cafe is the driver. He has seen two men with the same boots as the one he saw at the gas station. David is now trying to figure out how to make peace with the man driving the 18 wheeler. One of the men with the brown boots just left in a different truck, so that eliminates David's choices. He told one of the men who he thought was driving the truck to "cut it out" and knocked his drink out of his hand, so the man punched him and left, but not in the 18 wheeler. The 18 wheeler just left, but David still doesn't know which man is driving it. He is now driving in his car again on the highway. He stops to try to help a bus driver get unstuck and ends up getting his car stuck under the bus. The 18 wheeler turns around , so the man gets his car out from under the bus and drives off while the 18 wheeleer gets the bus unstuck. David is driving and has to stop for a train. While he's waiting, the 18 wheeler comes up behind his and starts pushing him towards the train. Luckily, by the time it pushes him all the way to the tracks, the train has gone by. David runs off the side of the road and the 18 wheelers drives past him. Whenever David starts driving again, he sees the 18 wheeler waiting on the side of the road and pulls back onto the road when David is almost passed him. He stops at another gas station and again, the 18 wheeler stops on the side of the road. David calls the police on a payphone and in the middle of his conversation, the 18 wheeler runs into to phonebooth right after David jumps out of it. The 18 wheeler runs into everything and destroys everything at the gas station so David leaves again. The 18 wheeler is still following so David pulls on the side of the road by a train to hide. After, the 18 wheeler passes and David takes a nap, he pulls on the main road again to find the 18 wheeler waiting for him on the side of the road. David gets out of his car to confront the man driving. The 18 wheeler drives off, so David stops an old couple driving by to ask them if they'll call the police. They say no and David begins driving again, determined to beat the 18 wheeler. The 18 wheeler stops following as close, but David's car begins smoking. The 18 wheeler is following again. David seems to be going crazy.

Bye, Bye Ipods
Who & What?
Many school principals, superintendents, and teacher suspect that ipods are now the new way in many high school to cheat on tests, quizzes, etc.
When & Where?
During school, students sneak their ipods during tests or quizzes to either look up or listen to answers.
Why?
Since phones have been banned, students now use their ipods to help on tests to look up answers so they can make better grades.
Agree or Disagree?
Although I do wish ipods would continue being allowed in schools, I do see a reason for them being ban. I agree because it's not right for students to have ipods in class because it does provide a way of cheating and even though students may want to listen to music after they are done with work and tests, they can do more productive things, like read or finish other work. However, I think ipods should be allowed before school, during lunch or free periods, and after school.

Houston, we have a problem.
Earthquake:
The earthquake that hit Chile has been devastating for the country. The main problems being faced are looters, deaths, trapped people, and supplies. Looters are the people who rummage around in the run down buildings trying to find food, clothing, or anything they can find to help them survive. The problem with the looters is they are stealing from others, even if they are surviving.

Global Warming:
Global warming has become a large topic in the United States. Recently, people are refusing to believe that global warming is happening because of the winter precipitation that has happened so often this year. What people don't know is all the precipitation is a result of global warming. With so much heat in the air in the summer, the water from oceans, lakes, rivers, etc. is evaporated into the air resulting with large amounts of precipitation throughout the year.

European Storm:
The storm, Xynthia, blew into France Sunday morning, flooding the whole place. Not only was France affected, but also other surrounding countries.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100301/ap_on_re_eu/eu_france_deadly_storm
Similarities:
All three tragic events that have happened are natural disasters. They have not only affected the single countries being involved, but also countries surrounding or even the whole world. Within all three, many deaths have occurred, or in the case of global warming, many deaths will occur in the future. Help for all three are taking place every second.
Most Important:
Of all three, global warming is the most important because it will affect the whole world, and may be the most disastrous. In the long term, ice caps will melt, causing all the bodies of water to overflow creating major floods, and eventually these places will drop to dangerous temperatures.
